Stephanie Rhoads, Founding Producing Director, 42nd Street Moon (San Francisco regional theatre)

Lauren has an extensive background in musical theatre, corporate training and comedy. She graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, where she studied songwriting with Tony-award winner Maury Yeston and conducting with Rob Kapilow, and then she studied under Lehman Engel in the ASCAP/BMI Musical Theatre workshop in New York, where she also music directed for nightclub singers. After moving to San Francisco, she became active in the cabaret scene, winning five San Francisco Bay Area Cabaret Gold Awards as a music director and singer/pianist, and headlining clubs including The Plush Room and the Fairmont Hotel’s Cirque Room. Lauren also became a highly sought-after music director/conductor/vocal arranger for professional theatres, including 42nd Street Moon, Theatreworks, Broadway By The Bay, Woodminster Summer Musicals, and many others, as well as a music director/teacher for local schools and theatre conservatories. She has also created & performed in several shows such as “From Drips To Divas” (with singer/songwriter Karen Drucker) and her one woman show, “Psycho Super Mom”. Lauren is currently on the

Lauren’s corporate experience includes writing and performing hundreds of custom-written shows for businesses, nonprofits, and private parties, creating song parodies and sketches all about the event, product, or guest of honor. Clients include Hewlett-Packard, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Syquest, Ernst & Young, March of Dimes, the National Association of Insurance Women, the Peninsula Jewish Community Center, and many more.

Another aspect of Lauren’s work for clients has been creating customized videos for social media. These videos have included original songs, comedy sketches, marketing pitches, and product introductions, for clients ranging from a credit union to a day spa. In addition, she spent 15 months with Electronic Arts, running and facilitating their Roadmap international program, she has taught public speaking and humor for associations including Meeting Professionals International and Ladies Who Launch, and she is the producer/writer and facilitator for Stanford’s Sexual Harassment Prevention Office’s live theatre-based training.

Lauren lives in San Mateo and is the proud mother of two grown sons who are also in the arts (her older son is a musical theatre performer in New York, and her younger son is a drummer and composer finishing up college). Her husband, Scott Grinthal, is a cabaret singer with whom she frequently performs, and in her spare time, she enjoys tap dancing and re-reading Jane Austen novels.
